I live in Portland and sometimes I make video games if I can find somebody who will pay me to do it.

I got some video games for my birthday.

  • Deadly Premonition 2: I liked the first one and have been curious to check this out, although I skipped it when it came out because I heard the performance was really rough and I wanted to wait and see if it would get improved with a patch. Well, that doesn't seem to have happened; it's still rough. That's not a huge hangup for me, but it's unfortunate. As for the game itself, I'm enjoying it so far, although I'm a little worried that SWERY may have become too self-aware of the first game's meme status and cranked it up too far for this one. But I've only played an hour or two, so we'll see.
  • Two Point Campus seems fun, but it's a little bit overwhelming at the start. The tutorial tells you things like the fact that you need one dorm bed for every five students (๐Ÿ˜), but not how to find out how many students you have... and I got a task to hire more staff, but didn't know what kind of staff I needed... stuff like that. I'm sure I'll get the hang of it eventually though. The text is also really tiny on the TV I was playing on. I'd probably have better luck on the bigger one in the other room. (This is the Switch version... controlling it using a controller does seem less than ideal, but I just hate playing games with keyboard and mouse; I can never do it for very long so I burn out on the game too quickly.)
  • Triangle Strategy: I played the demo of this and it seemed cool, but not quite enough for me to buy it, so I put it on my wish list. Now I have the full game, but I started over (I dunno why) so I haven't gotten past the demo part yet. It seems cool... it is extremely talky, but I don't think I mind that too much? Again, I've only just started, so we'll see. As for the actual game part, I hear it's pretty difficult, so I started on easy mode because I'm a baby. Coming from Fire Emblem is interesting because in Fire Emblem each player moves all their units at the same time during their turn, but in this game each unit has its own turn, and the turn order is pretty important to consider, so it's an adjustment. There's also additional stuff to consider like which direction your units are facing and elevation. Anyway, I think I'll probably enjoy it.

I think I also have Soul Hackers 2 on the way, which I'm pretty excited about, but I don't know when it's going to arrive. I thought "it comes out on the day after my birthday, so if I put it on my wish list, it should arrive on the release day and that'll work out great!" But now I have no way of knowing where it is, which is kind of frustrating because I could just be downloading it right now. I was hoping to be able to dig into it over the weekend, but I guess since I'm unemployed, it doesn't matter if it's the weekend. (I am doing some part-time contracting work, but that can be done at any time.) But whatever, I have three other new games to play, so I should shut up.
