Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z's Cursed Promotion

As an edgelord aficionado, I really tried to like Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z. Now that I own every Ninja Gaiden, maybe one day I will. The game is aggressively obnoxious, with ham-fisted barks measured in seconds.

Bad decisions followed this reboot like a plague. I had forgotten that they did a crossover with Mighty No. 9, another notorious failure. Team Ninja even tried to include Yaiba in Dead or Alive. Both inclusions look unbearably awkward.

This might've killed Ninja Gaiden forever.

The spirit seems to live on with stuff Wanted: Dead and the like. I know folks were down on the Master Ninja collection for not including NG Black, but its something, right?

There's always going to be edgelord games. Some just pull it off better. Yaiba is just relentlessly off. You barely ever get a breath before it does the worst thing again.

And yeah, maybe? I dunno. The collection feels more like they're testing the waters to see if it's worth revisiting at all. I just don't think it's going to move the needle that much. It's been quite a while.

Probably the original Xbox Ninja Gaiden? As crushing as it is, that game just felt so far beyond any other of its time. I like the deliberate flow of the NES games, but they are also just impossible to get through.

I still need to play the reboot Ninja Gaiden 3, but I always heard it was bad. And, you know, the DS version, but I've never even heard anyone play that.
