Oh, that's right. I got drunk and finally watched The Shining yesterday. Hey, that movie everyone says is good is pretty good.

This movie wouldn't be quite as good without acting performances that are nearly unmatched. Particularly Danny Lloyd and, certainly, Shelley Duvall's ability to translate raw emotion through a scene transcends this fearful premise to a full-blown, waking nightmare, to great thematic effect. Slather on top of that some of the most eye-grabbing sceneries in film, as well as powerful color theory and you've got yourself a classic.

I don't like blowing smoke up someone's ass, but this movie deserves any and all credit coming to it, despite its sordid history.
