The current Game Discourse™ made me remember a random top 5 I made about menu screens.
Sonic Mania is a miracle made when the stars align. And by that, I mean when the right kind of talented, obsessed people get permission and money from a major publisher to go all in on a throwback. And incredibly perfect presentation follows.
The Xenoblade Chronicles title screens are all really good. The refreshing, calming, renewing vibes you get from those things is (are?) off the charts. The games are also a little bit of a miracle, one where some JRPG devs get the time, money, and support to do pretty much whatever they want for the first time in ages. Or at least deliver a really solid product.
I do love a good solemn screen as well. I didn't like Cadence of Hyrule, but the menu screen music was so good that I would just let it ride frequently.
Yeah, that menu screen music is really, really damn good.
