Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio Review

Del Toro's haunting vision is used to tell the classic fairy tale, but with more horrifying imagery and a vague backdrop of fascist-led Italy, though very little of it is actually used for more than dressing. Not even the topic of mortality is handled consistently, as the wooden boy can get away with murder without batting an eye...hole. Pinocchio's journey is a touching tale of love and grief, but it shines more in visuals than in its sullen contents. The casting choice is incredibly inspired, however.
