I am also not a physician, but as someone with chronic respiratory illness and a basically obliterated immune system, I've had to become educated on the subject over the last few years, and I am here to endorse this psa and infographic. Pretty much everything here is something I've verified over the years through trial and error, and while it may not be "100% the absolute most authoritative" it's definitely better than any sort of vague "IDK just mask up" comment or exhortation.

Lots of great recommendations here. One thing I would add is that this variation of the Aura: the 9210+ is the exact same except it has woven elastic straps instead of the staples rubber bands.

They're a little more expensive, but I find them to be MUCH more comfortable and last quite a bit longer. My top choice for disposable respirators, I always keep a few in my purse.

For half face respirators I'd recommend also the 3M 7500 series if you have a taller face and want less pressure on your nose bridge (6000 series hurts me bad after about an hour) and the honeywell north 7700 half face ones are REALLY damn comfy for long wear, but offer a less secure fit if you gotta talk a lot.

And for purchasing fitlers especially, if you can skip amazon, ebay (especially ebay), or big box hardware stores and go with PPE supply places or restoration/abatement supply companies (especially the latter), you're probably gonna get better pricing and much less likely to encounter counterfeit stuff. There might even be actual storefronts in your city or town you can place an order and pickup from to avoid shipping if that's a possibility for you.
