something you're told about hypnosis is that a suggestion won't work if you don't want it to or you can never be made to do something you don't want to do. well that should be true. but what happens when you're put in an extremely agreeable state where things you normally wouldn't want to do become things that actually sound pretty alright? what then? that's the big problem around framing hypnosis like this, is that when that happens what then? does it mean you secretly wanted it to happen?

i have a lot of issues with this framing because while agency is a thing people can and should work on (like being able to pull yourself up from trance without help or actively ignoring suggestions), that can be something that is still really hard for people, especially new people.

you can absolutely be influenced to do things you do not want to do, which is why providing actual resources for hypnosis communities and making sure that we talk about things like consent, agency, priming, framing, etc are so important.
