Saw Florence + the Machine tonight at the WOMADelaide festival. Prior to tonight I was vaguely aware of her and had enjoyed a couple of her songs, but hadn't explored further than that. I came away fascinated and enthralled. She is the platonic ideal of one of those nymphs that drags men into lakes and eats them. She held a young woman's face and sang gently to her for a full two minutes. Her face was rapturous.

Womad doesn't tend to bring in artists this big. She might be the biggest they've ever had. But despite her having a machine of security and other staff around her, she engaged with the audience much more intimately than anyone else I've seen.

She would make an amazing cult leader.
