trailmixheads can i get some suggestions for something that takes the taste and texture role of raisins in trail mix but isn't dried fruit
... Which isn't dried fruit? Whew, that's a tough one. More of a texture role than taste, I'd imagine, so long as it goes w/ the rest of the mix well. The goal is like, a softer somewhat chewey sweet-ish vibe to balance out the salty, right?
It's not quite perfect a fit, but a recommendation I see often are some kind of chocolate/other chip? I see a recommend for butterscotch chips, so basically just like chocolate chips but a mix of butter/sugar instead.
It wouldn't last as long/not shelf stable but: firm tofu marinated in whatever sweetish marinade you like, bake/fry until outside has a bit of a crust and the inside is chewy?
