so, disclaimer, this isn't a drag on visual novels or the vndev scene, but:

one of the most harmful things I internalized in my early career as a game writer was the idea of a target wordcount per day, and more broadly, large wordcounts in general. This is something that was (is?) extremely pervasive in the vndev scene, obviously a carry-over from the bookdev scene, but man is that like the least relevant metric possible for game writers, visual novel writers included. It is weird to me that VN devs feel pressure to market on wordcount. I've managed to free myself of caring about that number but it took quite a while.

some of my most productive days on this gig have been, like, 500 word days. game writing more than most other kinds of creative writing is about getting the right words, and definitely probably about using as few of them as possible. guidelines, not rules, of course.

anyway, if this is something you worry about, first I recommend trying to care less about what other people think, and second, just do ya thing
