I compiled a few of our art and animation write-ups from GDC here, hopefully with a nice mix of scope and style.

Yes, GDC is over, but, well, we still have talk write-ups going up throughout the week (in fact, one of my all-time favorite production talks -- which I took COPIOUS notes at -- will have a piece live tomorrow morning). I'm also working on a bunch of these subject matter round-ups, so folks can read talks and interviews about their own area of expertise/interest.

GDC week is wild: I'm typically balancing going to talks/writing them up and chatting with folks while also generally, you know, running the website and the team as they all do the same. They covered way more talks than I did, but I was happy to live vicariously through a lot of their writing! I'll also be, naturally, watching practically everything on vault that I missed.

My 39-year-old ass was also in bed around 10:30 each night, and I masked up in my N95 as if I was in an ER anytime I was in the room with another human being (aside from eating + drinking, since, well, I did need to do those things to live). I actually paced myself decently and made it through the week without any panic attacks or extreme fatigue so I'm honestly happy about that. This was my first in-person "big" event since the pandemic, so, I was worried I was rusty and would get GOT by any number of exhausting things. Luckily, I have a really awesome team helping with every aspect.

It was honestly SUCH a pleasure to meet my team in person (for the first time!) and work with them closely. We also had two incredible freelancers with us all week: Alessandro Fillari and Sam Machkovech, who were incredible to work with and gave us INCREDIBLE coverage all week.

Look at my amazing crew! These are the folks writing at Game Developer every day, and I love them. Not in a weird way, in an I-love-my-team kind of way.

In one of the final hours of the show, I was able to run down to the expo floor and see folks playing all the Alt.Ctrl.GDC and IGF games that we commissioned Joel Couture to write interviews for, a project that had been my daily thing (often publishing 2-3 interviews per day) for the last couple of months. I almost cried, tbh, tears of excitement, of pride, of being a part, in any way, of this celebration of genuine creativity and quality. I had this feeling: like I want something I make (or am part of making) to be here one day. It felt so good to be there.

I feel lucky as hell, and honestly inspired by so many things I saw last week. I hope to be able to share it as best I can!
