idk if everyone knows this but they still flavor coca-cola with coca leaves, which are what you refine into cocaine. There's a single company in Illinois who is running on a license written in the 1940s who are authorized to import the coca leaves; they extract the cocaine out of them and then, with armed guards, load the cocaine onto a FedEx truck which takes it to an incinerator.

quick edit: my rambling is in fact not entirely true. please refer to rebug by @SaberaMesia for more accurate fun fact

it's actually in new jersey, and the cocaine is not incinerated not all of the cocaine is incinerated, it some is sold to a pharmaceutical company for making topical cocaine preparations, which are schedule 3 (unlike the more famous powder and rocks which are schedule 1)

fun fact: topical cocaine is used primarily as a local anesthetic for the upper respiratory tract

from op in the comments: the company that sells the cocaine apparently produces a surplus of it because of the contract being negotiated in the 40s before other, now more popular anesthetics, which does get incinerated! i have amended my post, and thanks @tercel-enby for sharing the initial bizarre capitalism!

I was just kinda regurgitating from a friend who interned there; after some more probing he was interning for the company that sells the cocaine, who apparently produce a surplus of it because of the contract being negotiated in the 40s before other, now more popular anesthetics. That's what was getting incinerated. Thanks for fact checking my posting a bit.
