i've heard Bluesky has Main Characters of the Day like Twitter did (does?). one of their recent ones was someone who said it wasn't ok to make jokes about 9/11, because that's what everyone was yelling about that day
the whole website descended upon them to wreak some sort of vengeance. they were no one in particular, saying nothing much at all and the twitterbrained power users weren't just gonna let that happen
seems exhausting, frankly! don't know why anyone wants this experience!
i was a Main Character of the Day on Twitter once, possibly twice depending on how u look at it. but that one time was horrible. thousands of people treating me like a communal punching bag for the crime of... being emotionally vulnerable to the point of "being cringe", which is the worst crime you can do online
i felt fucking disgusting for participating in previous Main Characters' public floggings and it soured me on the whole Twitter experience for good. but some people want more of that on a website where they explicitly allow hate speech and shit? i really don't get it
