replayed a bunch of Mirror's Edge tonight. that game has held up. still looks good. still plays good. stopped playing right before the indoor weapons sequences started to get far more common and if you do that it's basically a perfect game

I've always wished that game had another year to cook so I could feel justified to my attachment of the story. I completely wrote the indoor gun sections out of mind tho. That shit sucked.
I have reinstalled and replayed this game to completion on at least 3 separate occasions, something I don’t think I’ve done with any other game.
this reminds me that it is a few years I haven't replayed it - when it was new I replayed it over and over. I looked at the concept art all the time, I had it on the desktop wallpaper... I still get misty-eyed at the soundtrack for the last level when you climb the entire building for Kate :(
I forget about the indoor weapons sequences but I remember that I mostly went through by not engaging with the guns whatsoever, so maybe that's why?
yeah you can get through MOST parts without picking up a gun but i think toward the end they do force you to at least Do The Combat if not pick up a gun
I had a memory about an achievement for a completely pacifist run that I did get, but I wasn't clear on the specifics, so I just looked it up - yeah ok, there is an achievement for never shooting a gun throughout the whole game, so confirming, the guns are optional (I don't remember if this includes boss battles but I think yes?)
I do remember that if you choose to do them, the gun sequences just grind the game into a halt, the game in which you should be always on the move, so I wonder if this a design decision to disincentivize doing them or more plainly a design issue, lol
I had some more intelligent thoughts on the topic but I realize it's been 9 or 10 years since the last time I played and it's kind of embarrassing that it's been so long without touching this game that I really like. I'll go refresh my opinions and maybe even come back with written notes. long ago it was I wanted to even write a fansite about mirror's edge and then I never did...
