I got most of what Cohost was about within minutes of joining. It's like Tumblr with Myspace vibes.

By the time Mastodon actually allowed me to log in, it felt like a labyrinthine version of all the snobbiest parts of Reddit, kind of beaten into the shape of Twitter, but also with neither's convenience. Every step there takes seven steps to do a worse version of it. It's the "learn to code" screech meme come to life.

tl;dr: Mastodon sucks

in reply to @darkpuke's post:

It's basically shorthand for people with low empathy to not care about anyone's hardship. It stems from people getting laid off and social media weirdos telling them to learn to code as a 'solution'

Laid off? Learn to code Disabled? Learn to code War refugee? Learn to code Can't figure it out? Simply figure it out

That kind of catch-all nonsense.

Cohost reminds me of a lot of the fun parts of the web, with some freedom and occasional bugs and eggbugs mixed in - ha! Mastadon felt like craigslist + IRC + usenet or something... great for some purposes, but not what I was looking for.

And I couldn't imagine trying to even start explaining to a non-technical friend how to get online and use it... cohost is the way!
