So months ago I did some yuri recommendations. Specifically, it was yuri that's been finished, then yuri that's currently being made. After that, I said I'd do some oneshots. But I never got around to it. Lately, there's not been any good new yuri coming out, so to fill that hole, I've just been re-reading a bunch of oneshots. Here's a list of some of those that I've been reading I really liked, plus some of my alltime absolute favorites.
This is by no means an expansive list, and I'm going to almost certainly make another one of these someday. Every single one of these is a recommendation, but I'll give a small little note for each of these so you can make informed decisions about what you'd like to read~
If you have your OWN recommendations, feel free to add them below. Without further ado, BRING ON THE LESBIANS!
The Amazing Magic Only You Possess
CWs: Kinda weird, maybe some power dynamics issues. A tad lewd at parts.
A Magical Girl, with her enchanted plushy Lappi, saves the world from the Dark Queen, thus granting herself one wish. Her wish is to stay with Lappi forever. Now, many years in the future, Lappi finds herself living with Megu, the office girl. She wishes she could do SOMETHING to earn her keep, but she's just a little stuffie...
A cute and interesting oneshot. I think some people might find this Very Weird, because it's a sentient plushie and a human woman. But uh, I find it adorable. There's also a lot of metaphor going on here, with parallels to like, disability and such. Very sweet, and one of my absolute favorites. But y'know, you're warned. It can be seen as Weird.
The Demon Disappears Through a Lens
Chiaki arrives at her new school and has a run in with the school delinquent! Everyone's terrified of her,but Chiaki is curious what her deal is. She's always squinting and glaring at everyone. What could it be??
Akiho wakes up early for once in her life and takes the early bus to school. No one else is around this early, except for a single girl who's also taking the bus. She's a prim and proper girl from the rich school, but the two hit it off quickly...
Tamaki is a new hire at a deli, and hits it off quickly with Saho, becoming good friends. A boy also keeps coming to the Deli to flirt with Saho, which seems to bother Tamaki. Saho becomes convinced that Tamaki must like him, and that's why she's bothered! It's time to fix this, for Tamaki's sake!
I love the character designs in this. Saho is a girl on the larger side, but it's not treated as anything more than just, what she is. It's never mentioned or mocked. In fact, everyone loves her, she's very sweet. Also EVERYTHING Sal makes is just, amazing.
CW: Alcohol
Sakura and her senpai are celebrating Sakura's 20th birthday with some alcohol! Sakura is hoping that the alcohol will give her the power to confess her feelings. Can she muster up that courage??
This one is about one of my absolutely favorite topics in yuri, one I don't see often. Happy families, two loving women and their kid(s). Or as Dynasty Scans calls it, uh, "non-science babies". Dynasty Scan's tag system is weird sometimes.
Hina is a young pre-schooler who gets into a spat with her overworked and exhausted mother, who isn't even LISTENING to her! Her mom's wife, Ric-chan, tried to teach her how important her mother is, but she's so young. It's a fluffy and sweet loving family, and like all families, they have some rough spots now and then, but they'll make it through, to a sunny tomorrow.
Rin is a young girl who's confessed to by a girl! That's weird, isn't it, a girl liking another girl? Uh no, of course not. After all, Rin has two moms. Why would that be weird?
More cute family stuff.
CW: Violence, tragedy, monster girls
Claire is a Human with a pure heart, but took up a job of hunting Monsters, despite never wanting to hurt others. While out on a hunt, she meets Alyn, a dragon, and her child, Asha. Now, several years later, Claire is taking care of Asha as her adoptive mother, and is haunted by the past. Asha realizes that Claire is in pain, and wants to help.
This one can get real heavy, but is pretty sweet.
CW: Age Gap, kinda? In like, both ways. You'll see what I mean.
Mizuki was a sickly girl who one day died in her hospital bed. Now a ghost, she finds herself haunting a young girl living in her old home, Misao, who seems to be the only person who can see her. Mizuki hovers around Misao as she grows up, watching time pass by...
Miyazaki hits her head one day and wakes up in the infirmary. The class rep comes in to check on her. She's always been distant to Miyazaki before, though Miyazaki has a crush on her. While visiting, however, Miyazaki keeps hearing her voice, even though she's not speaking. And the class rep seems to have VERY strong feelings about her...
Goofy and cute.
Fussa is an actual IRL city in Japan, which has a US military base on it. One day, while walking by the chain link fence seperating the two countries, Risa meets a young American girl named Delphi living on the other side. The two, despite not speaking each other's languages, want to become closer! Can they cross both the language barrier, and the actual physical barrier, and become closer?
I love language barrier stuff and international love (I wonder why this is so important to me huh), so this one hits me in a good way.
5 Seconds Before a Witch Falls in Love and its sequel Five Seconds Before Falling in Love With a Witch
CW: Technically age gap, they're both adults but Meg is apparently an ancient and powerful witch, though she just looks like a young woman.
Lilith is a Witch Hunter, and Meg is the Grand Witch. Meg's whole deal is she like causing mischief out of boredom, so Lilith is here to stop her. They play cat and mouse a lot, but things get a little wild when Meg manages to cast a curse on Lilith.
A good two parter. I feel like there can, and SHOULD, be more.
From Aiu Station on the Hiragana Line and its sequel I'll Send Her Home on the Last Train
CW: Foiled train molestation, not shown as the biggest deal
Asaki is a high school third year, getting ready to graduate. She's kind of a vain pretty girl, who's goal is to win a beauty pageant and marry some famous rich guy. Simple stuff. Things change a bit when she meets Tsune, a first year in the school who saves her from a guy on the train trying to shoot pictures up her skirt. The two start to hit it off, and Asaki's dreams and view of her future begin to shift...
CW: Alcohol
MORE SAL! Her stuff is so good. This one is a short and sweet story about two accquaintences, one of whom shows up home drunk as fuck. It's big height gap hours, ANOTHER thing I love. scratches head in 6'4 Hmm I wonder why
CW: NSFW, but no like, explicit sex scenes
Eiko is a pornographic manga artist. To help her with human anatomy reference, she buys a sex robot, Leeza. Leeza helps her with her art considerably, but Leeza is a little concerned about one thing: Why won't Eiko try her out for her original function??
Adult Women Don't Try Too Hard
An and Kyouka are office women who go out drinking together all the time. Just drinking buddies, nothing more, despite how An feels... but tonight's the night. An is going to muster up the courage, finally, to ask her out. She's an ADULT now! She can DO this!
CW: Lots of religious references, blind main character and another main character having some unhealthy feelings about that
Keiko and Haruka are students at some kind of Christian school. Keiko is a sweet girl who likes cute things, but it doesn't fit her appearance as a delinquent. But that doesn't matter for her relationship with Haruka, because Haruka is blind. When Haruka has the opportunity to gain her sight back with a surgery, Keiko doesn't know what to think. She cares about Haruka deeply, but if she could actually see her... would Haruka want anything to do with her anymore?
