in reply to @listeninggarden's post:

I'm very new to actually having MD, but have been aware of them for a little while, they're a very cool format and if they were released today, imo, they'd feel right at home.

hey, i'd be happy to give one a listen if it were to happen! i see all those prerecorded discs from independent artists with the cool artwork and custom j-cards... they're like if the 80s predicted a successor to cassette in the 2020s, except they're real and have been a thing for 32 years

welcome to the obsession!! i luv looking around at the designs for the shells that screamed late 90s retro-tech and pre fruteger-aero aesthetic and dreaming of what could have been in a better timeline. same pleasing tactile experience as cassettes but with digital signal and more potential for convenience on the go

i still have a 5-stack of unopened sony goldfoil alongside the library i put together back in the day. cd-r's just never held the same appeal to me

thank you haha, they're very endearing. i already have 4 ipod classics (my current fav is a monochrome 4th gen), and it was amazing when i fished two md walkmans out of scrap at work (mzr91 and mzr900) plus three discs. The two recorders are apparently as old as I am.

I instantly put Human After All on one of the gold sonys and Planisphere on the other. Have a small collection of CDs, as having some of my favourite albums physical is Neat, and is a way for me to support current independent artists without filling my small room with records that i have no space to play or store.

I could probably store about 4 MDs in the space that a single CD takes up.
