i participated in ludum dare for the first time ever this weekend! i was really fortunate to have a bunch of very cool people to work together with. since i normally work alone, getting to create a game in a team (& in such a short time!) was a very cool experience.

our game technically started in august of last year when Miragey and i talked about working on a game jam together (with an unnamed friend of Miragey's, who'd i later find out was jummbus!). some time after that, Miragey mentioned game jamming to chunderfins, who mentioned it to NomNomNami, & the rest is history!

Greenfinger! is a ska rhythm farming game - the ska idea came from NomNomNami & chunderfins, & it just kind of spiralled from there! i was actually away for the first twelve hours or so of the jam since i was on an airplane, & when i got off everything was already in motion.

since all five of us have experience doing all kinds of game stuff on our own, there was lots of crossover in what people were doing! chunderfins & Miragey worked on putting together the amazing soundtrack together (seriously the music is so good!!!). jummbus implemented the music into the rhythm game portion & i'm not still not sure how this was done in just 72 hours!!! all the coding side of things was done by jummbus in GameMaker Studio. the character busts & keyart were done by Nami (they're so cute!) with Miragey doing the final illustration among other assets & chunderfins doing art too. i (npckc) wrote the script (special shoutout to Miragey who added in a ska-tastic pun near the end) using Nami's amazing busts for reference & did ui design & assets. (the very cool ui text like the SUBLIME! score was done by chunderfins though!)

since all of us live in different parts of the world, the jam was all done online in discord through messages & voice calls. a big part of why everything went super smoothly is that Nami laid out a day schedule for us to keep track of big tasks as well as a notion (for general game notes) & a trello (for checking which tasks were done or not) - i don't think we'd've got this done nearly as fast as we did - actually much before the 72-hour deadline! - without Nami's amazing work here. i highly recommend both notion & trello (& a good planner like Nami!) for keeping track of team game jams!

it was a really fun experience for me overall & i'm incredibly proud of the game we put together. check out Greenfinger! & harvest the best skartichoke!!

this is awesome!! super cute artstyle, funny dialog. reaally good music. im surprised by how hard you made it! my years of playing stepmania prepared me well for this :) usually these ddr-like jam games end up being way too easy so this was a lot of fun haha, but i imagine itll be tricky for many people. having a column dedicated to just holds is an interesting divergence from classic ddr, it'd be cool to see an expansion on this (a column for just rolls, or a specific pattern maybe). really polished and really nice :)
