I went out and watched the Perseids this past weekend and I swear to you I've never seen a darker sky in my whole life. 7,200 feet of elevation, perfect seeing, zero atmospheric turbulence, no clouds, no wind even. Absolutely one of the greatest nights of stargazing I'll probably have in my whole life. This was the only shot I imagined to get some meteors in, but I saw dozens of them.
Oh, wonderful! Can I ask where this is? I have a bucket list of places to go see stars. 😅
We stayed at the Okefenokee swamp since it's the closest dark sky park, and while it was pretty humid and the "seeing" forecast was average, we were still thrilled with the view.

Taking a deeper look at this photo, and you captured an incredible amount of stuff! The Andromeda and Triangulum galaxies, the Double Cluster, Caldwell 28, Messier 34, the Pleiades (my beloved), and of course Jupiter just blazing away behind the trees there.
Stunning.
when I stepped out of the tent, the Andromeda Galaxy virtually slapped me in the face. It was literally brighter than most stars around it and the disc was fully visible with the naked eye (and my eyesight is meh at best!) Genuinely knocked my socks off. I cried so much in awe.
Amazing. I’ve been considering a dark-sky trip for a while and now I think I have to make that a reality.
