daily knowledge: hosted in the heart of Silicon Valley, the Valleyschwag Hoedown was a wild-west themed party put together with only 5 days of planning. With hundreds in attendance, people gathered for “hayrides,” the “world’s largest rocking horse,” plenty of wine, beer, whiskey, and a fashion show to show off their web 2.0 schwag. Shenanigans ensued, and not only did people from the Valley attend, but a live video feed of the Hoedown was broadcast and IRC chats were set up for people around the world to join the fun. Truly a party for the ages, it was MCed and reported on by GeekEntertainmentTV, remixed videos were uploaded to the now defunct JumpCut, and photo collections were posted to Flickr under the tag “vshoedown.”
Many platforms made an impact at the Hoedown, and many of those platforms have been lost to the sands of time. But one platform, completely unbeknownst to the company behind it, was about to make its debut, as the founder of Odeo, Noah Glass, was attending the party. So while people recognized him as the creator of a tiny podcasting platform that few people cared about, after getting a few drinks in, he was more than a little happy to brag about his company’s latest product.
TO BE CONCLUDED…
