daily knowledge:
basically apple wanted to make a new version of mac os that was cooler and better and gooder so they began working on "project copland" (pronounced copeland). but the feature creep and bad corporate structure got to them and instead of resulting in a stable os it resulted in an unstable buggy piece of shit that didn't work. but they still wanted mac os but better so they decided to buy another operating system instead.
enter nextstep, developed by next computer which was founded by steve jobs. apple enters talks to buy next computer, and they agree under the condition that steve jobs returns as ceo of apple. steve jobs agrees and immediately culls most of the apple product line and begins doing other cooler shit like shipping the ipod and the imac, and in 2001 shipping itunes. couple years later in 05 they add podcasting support to itunes which forces the odeo team to pivot from making podcasting software to making twitter.
once they had a new product that they were confident in, the guys at the odeo team who got together to buy the company back from the venture capital firms that invested in them accomplished that goal by forming a corporation they called Obvious Corporation. twitter is spun off from obvious corporation but a few years later (i forget the exact timeline) evan williams revives obvious corporation as a venture capital firm investing in all sorts of startups and other stupid shit. one of those startups, of course, being beyond meat. who would go on to create beyond fried chicken and begin the soyjak apocalypse by inspiring that original Damned image.
