I think if I hadn't gotten better in the past few years surrounding my PTSD I would have just left this website a while ago and never looked back lol

I used to have hour long panic attacks at even the mention of my triggers, and people are terrible at tagging things. You all are terrible at it. Some of you better than others, but that's how it is. So I always have to rely on systems to try and mask stuff. I use word blockers and stuff, but most of the time it's just a fucking image. And Cohost's protection systems are kinda terrible. I like this website a lot but I gotta call it how it is, they're absolute shit. But even if they were perfect, people's terrible ability to tag shit would be a problem anyway lol

Hopefully they get worked on soon, though. I've gotten way better at calming myself down and not feeling like people are attacking me in particular for triggering me but I'd still rather not have to look at it lol

EDIT: Sorry if this post seems inflammatory lol getting anxiety over the idea I insulted someone just please tag your stuff

in reply to @Lizstar's post:

ig one thing we're missing from tumblr is people explicitly requesting "tag this and this"

but also i'm surprised that the current "ai" boom hasn't delivered a fuckin browser extension for this, like, classifying posts as containing-or-not common trigger X with v decent probability is exactly something "machine learning" can do well

(shit, developing that kind of thing could probably get me a lot more fame and patreon supporters than working on obscure unix system stuff but i hate machine learning.. well maybe someone could collab tho, me doing the browser part and them doing the ml part..)

there's currently no good way of tagging things in a way that doesn't also hashtag them to be globally discoverable in ways that people may not want... aside from content warnings, which a lot of personalities on this site are very weird about to the point that they'll circulate posts about how you shouldn't use them because tag muffling exists, and if you try to spitball ideas about how to deal with this shortcoming in ways that don't result in e.g. an "#eye contact global feed" you might even get quote-replied about how you're trying to "enforce a culture" or some shit. this site is neat for css demoscene purposes but boy howdy are the people here a piece of work sometimes

afaik right now there aren't any good models that are small enough to run on CPUs in reasonable time, so you'd have to send it to a backend, and I think people would hate that for the obvious reasons

dealing with this now .. and i appreciate you for saying it.

so much of my energy is hurled to nothingness by things i have absolutely no control over yet i do everything i can to keep it as a 'me problem', like leaving notes on profiles or blocking, and then it all goes terribly wrong as there is nothing inbetween. i'll heed the note, find a post, and there will be a comment i can't cope with, i'll actually have to open that commenter's profile to block them if i even can, else what can i do? crumple time. blocking people for having intimidating comments on their posts is not my proudest moment either! there's no way back from that. even above this there's a comment i just can't see and i'll never know why.

all that is probably familiar to you, i'm just looking for ways forward. one of my carers (also a goblin) brought me here as a step into healthier socialising, and yet it's such an unsteady step. i, too, need people to be consistent with tags and warns. and i need to be able to block without visiting profiles, it's for the best, they probably won't be able to cope with me either.

what of the blocked tho, should we be able to see where a blocked item is and choose to read our note or unblock? getting better at coping, cohabiting, and communicating, is surely a good thing, right? is that something your blocking software can do to ease you back? a low or high gear would be really useful to me sometimes but this all or nothing stuff became too bad to maintain. posting now before i don't, sorry thanks.
