im relearning some golang because i might need to write it professionally, and i gotta say, i hate it. just a dogshit language. It like a half baked concept they shipped and have added to but without thought, and also they abstracted all the wrong things.

Why does it have footgun Zero value defaults for types but doesn’t have a setdefault for maps. why is the slice type also the dynamically resizable array type. why doesnt it have enough syntax. Why does the standard library suck ass

Alright got that out of my system im good now. Should be obvious im a big fan of Rust though

It's pretty funny, because it's a great language for the wrong decade. It's literally a language that redresses all the grievances against C that were made in the '80s and '90s. But thirty to forty years later, we already fixed those problems and more, and Google came along to say "we have fast compile times, and you can read function signatures aloud," as if that revolutionized the industry.

Had Pike and Thompson released it in 1994, though, Java probably would've never stretched outside of applets.

That said, I do appreciate some of the tooling, like the "oh, we're reformatting this so that everybody's code matches, because you arguing about coding style is wasting everyone's time" thing.
