Here's today's VOD:
First up, another school shooting. This one comes with a side of transphobia.
It’s weird, and depressing, that we have to do this – to distinguish each mass shooting by describing it with some small unique bit that separates it from the others.
But, here we are. We had Tess Owen on to talk a little about this. This post is also a good walkthrough of how this shooting is being used as an anti-trans talking point.
Then, a doc about anti-abortion clinics in Uganda, which are funded by some American right-wing evangelical groups:
Julia Steers was on to talk about this, and man, that interview at the end is pretty wild. The amount of disinformation being spread (eg telling pregnant women that abortion involves having someone cut out your intestines with scissors) is a little mind blowing, and there doesn’t seem to be any real responsibility being taken for this.
We also went through a series of interviews with 20-year-old Iraqis, who were born around the time of the the US invasion of Iraq, which happened 20 years ago.
One of the interviews that stuck out to me the most was Salim, who said theirs is called the PUBG generation. Not something I would have thought of, but it makes sense.
