professor, documentary filmmaker, etc etc

hey, here's the rundown for today's stream.

We had Liz and Shrai on to talk about the Dominion vs Fox News case, and check out this very appropriately titled minidoc:

Something I hadn’t been really aware of was that in the background of this case is NYT vs Sullivan (1964), an important Supreme Court decision that establishes: if you want to sue someone for defamation, you have to prove not only that the statements are inaccurate, but that the person is lying on purpose with malicious intent. It goes back to an ad printed in the NY Times about Martin Luther King, Jr, and is worth checking out.

One weird twist in this trial is that nobody is allowed to post the audio of it online, so we weren’t able to listen to any of it on the stream.

But instead, for reference, here’s a supercut of Sean Hannity talking about Dominion:

Then, we had Anya on, along with Rynn, the founder of TRANSport, on to talk about why some trans people are fleeing the US and seeking asylum abroad. Also worth reading: this article about trans kids being forced to detransition, and this Baltimore Sun op-ed that gets more into why people are wanting to leave the USA.

Last, Vice Book Club:

This ‘80s PSA:

And this Busta Rhymes video:

See if you can figure out the connection.

Also brought up on stream: ChatGPT got a B on a quantum computing final, then asked the prof for a better grade](https://scottaaronson.blog/?p=7209); scientists want to use asteroids to look for a ‘fifth force’.

If you want to catch the next one live, we're every Tuesday and Thursday at twitch.tv/VICE, from 11am until whenever we feel like it.

See you next time!
