i had a dream about this new social media everyone was suddenly using now. the layout was still vaguely similar to cohost? but it had this system where if you wanted to Engage with a post, you had a narrow limited time window after it was posted to do so. If something wasn't "New", you just, couldnt interact with it anymore, not even Like it. But, if you got to a post within the time frame, when you wanted to reply or repost something you had to first click this "↖️" button. The diagonal arrow was just, Known contextually by the community to represent a Spear. This action was called "drawing your weapon."

as a creator, you'd see how many people "drew their weapon" in response to your post. and there was some nuance as to what this actually....meant, in practice? if someone drew their weapon during the response window, it meant they've now Reserved a spot to make a comment or repost to your post, even after that window has ended. They are allowed make their one (1) response at any time, even months later. So there was some tension there once the weapon was drawn, like "when are they going to follow up on this?" If someone reposted your post, this was called a "parry" and any attached reply got waaay more visual emphasis over whatever original post was being parried (come to think of it that's basically what qrting is like already). also sadly the word "Riposte" was nowhere to be found here, im mad about it too.

there was no dislike button, but drawing your weapon and then Not Responding any further was like the defacto way to show Discontent with something. if a bunch of people drew their weapons at you and then never followed up, it was like getting ratioed. this also means that if you draw your weapon because you actually wanted to make a response, (which you had to declare ahead of time) there was now like, pressure on you to actually make good on that promise and do it in a timely manner -- or else it could get interpreted as a Dislike instead...! finally receiving a response from someone after a long delay came with a feeling of vindication. Especially since there was a tally on the sidebar reminding you how many weapons were currently still pointed at you in total across your posts.

i remember just, scrolling through my feed and deliberating internally about whether i should draw my weapon against any given thing i saw, while i still had the chance to. i woke up with a headache and then felt a wave of relief
