i think the most eyeopening example of "this is for children" i've ever seen was star wars. star wars is, and has ALWAYS been, a children's media franchise. the original star wars movies were for children, the prequels were for children, the sequel trilogy was for children, every star wars TV show that's been made is for children (not just the cartoons), every star wars video game is for children (not just the lego ones)
and that's not... a pejorative? that's not something against it, and that's not judging you for enjoying it. i absolutely hate when people are smug about adults enjoying children's media. you can argue semantically about this all day ("is star wars battlefront for children?" yeah dude it is) but at the end of the day, that doesn't change what it is, and it's important for proper literacy about the media you enjoy to be aware of who it is made for
this applies to an extremely significant chunk of popular media for a reason. and that's because we live under capitalism and capitalism wants the largest possible media audience. deregulation in the 80s meant that corporations could now advertise to children - that meant that films that were ACTUALLY not for children suddenly became marketable to them as toys. and over 40 years the media landscape has shifted. and now marketing to children is the default, which means the majority not the minority of our media is aimed at children. this is why disney is a media enterprise this is why five nights at freddys and minecraft and among us are pop culture. this isn't inherently a bad thing but it is reality
I can't remember who originally said it but my go-to observation whenever I see weird nerds getting hyper-obsessively angry over Star Wars is, "This is a franchise about space wizards intended for children."
