today i remembered the new yorker who Went Viral several years ago because their utter never-swung-a-hammer-and-never-worked-retail obliviousness led to them forgetting that apartments are next to each other

they ripped the mirror out of their bathroom and climbed through the resulting hole into the adjoining apartment, then made "news" all over the internet for the "bizarre" "creepy" place they found (an adjoining apartment that was under renovation.) at no point did i ever see someone say "you just... broke into someone else's apartment." it was one of the yuppiest things i've ever seen in my life and that is saying something

"tell me you've spent your entire life inside high-level economic structures that have completely isolated you from ever thinking about how anything you use actually works without saying that"

sure, but how long would it take you to realize, having broken a hole in the wall of your bathroom and found another bathroom on the other side, that it was another apartment? would you post about it for days, involving millions of other people, none of which seem to realize that the "mysterious bathroom" you've "discovered" is just another unit?

I saw a Youtube vid that was like "look, we found unused tunnels in London!" and then half way through the vid they just ... found a working modern kitchen? There was a fucking microwave. And evidence of recent tea making.

But it's totally abandoned guys!
