they're going over his history at the beginning of the episode and they're like "wow he was one of the greatest italian chefs in all of japan. then, unfortunately, he was speeding in his fancy luxury car and killed a pedestrian and friend in his car. he lost everything and went into massive debt. can he RECLAIM his HONOR" and we're just sitting there stunned

it was heavily framed as like "he lost everything in an accident, the debt and scandal ruining this rising star, but now that he's paid for his crimes both to society and in real life can he return to honor??" but they just kept going "and he KILLED PEOPLE" in ways that were so uncomfortable it was amazing

fdsjklasfdljkasdf. they had this whole pathetic scene where they showed off his miserable house where he had to live now because he was in so much debt

iron chef is one of the great shows of all time. every single guy they invite on they turn into a shonen character of the week, except their real guys. my favorites are "personal chef for chairman mao" where they had a huge portrait of mao in the arena for the fight and "mom of a chef who previously got beaten and was showing up to kick those iron chefs ass with her good ol' homecooking"
