i really think a lot of guys need to learn to go "dang. i don't like this game. guess it isn't for me!" and move the fuck on. even if it's the big popular game. you not having a good time with it isn't necessarily a design flaw!
yeah, like, talking about interesting ways a game is bad is good and useful, but just harping on it is kinda old. and a waste of time that could go to like, improving your favorite game's wiki. or anything else.
but I think there's a large number of a Type of Guy who doesn't understand the cost of coding, thinks that it's hard for them but easy for people with practice, and well, that Type of Guy has been thrust into an era where art can be patched. Where people think that if the zeitgeist is loud enough, a game can be coerced into becoming better. Or at least you can bend the sequel to your wants.
Sometimes it works -- consumer power is a big fear, and the gamergate reign of terror showed that the tactic works, at least, works enough for some people to think it still does, even if they don't buy into GG style brain worms. But enough companies have bent the knee that the illusion of possibility still persists.
a completely warped idea of games, the idea that art can be forced, the idea that someone who hates the game can sway the people making it even though, you know... they hate it enough to rant about it.
anyway we all know the type so i won't waste words. they're all over youtube. they're in the subreddit yelling at the devs constantly and making them not read even the useful input. they're in the game forums ranting about how bad it is even though they haven't played it in 6 months. Customer-is-always-right brained fools who spurn their awakening any chance that arises.
