I've not gotten any good at writing descriptions since I first made my tumblr and by god I'm not about to start now.

grinding my teeth frothing at the mouth fuming and seething because somebody with a lot of followers on tumblr said that light rail "has the best of [heavy rail]1 and trams" which is just such a fucking uneducated take. like tell me american urbanism youtubers have poisoned your way of thinking in one sentence without saying it outright. complaining about heavy rail being expensive is so ridiculous because yeah y'know what building infrastructure with a capacity big enough to actually serve as a city's primary transit network (something no light rail system in the country can or could do) is fucking expensive!!! you dumbass!!!

  1. THEY CALLED HEAVY RAIL "METRO" TOO WHICH IS NOT EVEN A USEFUL THING TO CALL IT BECAUSE A GREAT DEAL OF LIGHT RAIL SYSTEMS (SUCH AS THE MUNI METRO, THE LA METRO, ETC.) USE THE WORD "METRO" FOR THEIR LIGHT RAIL SYSTEMS. THERE'S LITERALLY A WORD FOR THE SYSTEM YOU'RE DEFINING AND IT'S CALLED HEAVY RAIL. I MEAN SURE IT'S COMPLICATED BUT YOU MADE THE LEAST HELPFUL CHOICE OF TERMINOLOGY

in reply to @cass's post:

i always assumed light rail meant "for people and people-like things (smaller cars, more air)" and heavy rail meant "for transporting industrial-weight things, like tons of corn or steel or coal or concrete". i guess i have a lot to learn about trains
