so from what I hear, the FF7 remake trilogy's thesis seems to be that a first-party remake is fundamentally a kind of fanfiction with extra steps.
I feel like if you want to create fiction which serves as a critical/literary response to that, then for full effect, you either need to create it as 1. a different story which purports to be a remake or adaptation but which is actually a meta bait-and-switch pseudo-sequel, or 2. as FF7 Remake fanfiction in its own right.
