It's Friday and we all made it, so you know what it's time for. If it's your first time with me, What's Good is where I gather up all the good music I come across in a week, with a few odds and ends from around the web, then I send you along your way with some playlists to peruse at your leisure. Sound good? Great.
Before we get started though, given the news we all got from staff this week about the state of Cohost's financials, I thought it'd be good to point y'all toward Cohost Plus as a way to support the platform that houses What's Good, and a ton of other great artists of all stripes, along with people who just want to blog and chill someplace that isn't chasing the same sort of algorithm/ad-driven high that every other social media platform is. The web's getting smaller and smaller by the day, so any place that still wants to honor the spirit of why most of us hang out on the internet in the first place is worth keeping around, and independent.
I'm going to sub up as soon as my refund from Uncle Sam touches down, and if you've got it, I suggest you do the same. Now without any further ado, let's get into this week's offerings.
Bonus Beats
Cavalier's debut for Backwoodz, Different Type Time is coming soon (you can check out the video for "Pears" down below), and ahead of it the label shared his set live from Times Square, while he was supporting Armand Hammer on their recent tour.
Ohbliv and Gino Sorcinelli of Micro-Chop teamed up with Old Soul Music for a Smooth Jazz playlist entitled Curious World. I'm normally not the biggest fan of the genre, but Gino's thoughtful words (along with his and Ohbliv's respective pedigrees) have me curious to dive in, no pun intended.
Abe Beame meditates on generation gaps and the ephemeral nature of being culturally relevant in his review of Project Pat's recent show in Bushwick for Stereogum.
sleepingdogs (andrew and Jesse The Tree) sat down with The Rap Music Plug Podcast to talk about their partnership, their recent solo work, and what they've got coming up next.
ScHoolboy Q sat down with Nadeska for an hour long conversation about Blue Lips, recovering and evolving from drugs and bad decisions, his five year gap between releases, and much more.
NAHreally and The Expert's BLIP is coming next week, and they're hosting a free listening party on 3/20 to preview it and chat with fans.
