I like it here. But I worry. Is this site going to just collapse soon nayway? I hope not. Optimism is difficult sometimes

I mean you can look at the financial report @staff posted, it's looking pretty positive and things certainly seem to be moving in the right direction
'No telling. I keep thinking twitter is just going to collapse on itself but it's still hanging on somehow. Eventually something will implode and people will sort themselves back to somewhere else.
May as well enjoy the place while it's here though.
I think the answer is "yes, obviously" but there's no reason we can't have a few laughs in between now and the end
Every social media site, big or small, that is run as a business is unprofitable. The only difference is Twitter or Tumblr or whatever has years and years of VC to burn through before they shut down, and sites like Cohost or Pillowfort don't. Something being hosted in someone's spare time on a hobbyist scale can survive, like a fedi instance or a forum that's been around for 20 years, only because of the fact that it's small and doesn't have to pay someone a salary. But social media doesn't generate sustainable amounts of revenue. There's just not a lot of ways you can realistically get people to pay enough money for it to cover the costs.
