She’s the main character of a comic series called Albedo that started running in 1983 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albedo_Anthropomorphics

When I was a kid, maybe around 12, I picked up an Albedo anthology from a comics shop that was clearing out old issues. I didn’t know what furry was at the time, but in retrospect it was my first intro to furry culture

ooooh. yeah, my hometown didn't have a comic shop. i didn't get into comics until college, attempt no. 1 (2007-2010).

Hah! Yeah, that’s fair. In my case there were a few stores available to kids ça 1995-1997 that had a big collection of worthless old 80s comics they were willing to let kids have for cheap. And that’s my origin story, or one of them

That would explain my lack of knowledge in this department, even though I am 41. I have never actually bought any comic books or manga. I spent all my spare money on video games. My primary contact with the furry culture was mostly the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise and the incredible wealth of fan fiction floating around the Internet in the 1990s. Should have known something was up when I felt like I couldn't let myself be seen actually watching the cartoons if anyone else was around, flipping the channel if anyone came in the room like I was watching porn or something.
