These old French Adventure games were so ahead of their time and so full of vibes. Mewilo is tackling themes that narrative games today are scared to touch (and Muriel Tramis' later Freedom: Rebels in the Darkness would expand on them with a fire and a fury that has yet to be matched).

It's so fascinating to find such a rich vein of game history so close to home. I could get a train to France, I can read French! And yet so much of this stuff was so alien to me until so recently.

As a result of a weird decision by the South Australian education department, Amstrad CPCs were in basically every school in the state well into the 90s.

The palette and aesthetic of the Amstrad are still a strong memory in mind. Though my main memories are the graphical text adventures of Satchel Software (Jara Tava et al)

there's a series of games developed/ported by Satchel/Angle Park Computing Centre that I most identify with the Amstrad from my school days. Jara Tava,The Lost World,Granny's Garden (port of earlier BBC Micro version I believe) particularly. They had ports to Amiga,IBM later too.

I think some of them are straight up 'lost games' now too.

Theres also an Amstrad Text Adventure I played a lot at school that I've never been able to reidentify. It involves sneaking into Dracula's castle and you scare off the occasional Dracula attack by saying "Alucard"
