i might be wrong since it’s been a while but i think people who worked at CoreOS (pre-acquisition) called themselves that
reminded of the time joel vargskelethor played hypnospace outlaw and even though the game's tutorial literally gives you the spoken pronunciation of hypnOS multiple times, he somehow became convinced it was pronounced "heepnos"
and also someone in chat said "[the pronunciation] is debatable"
