I've talked about it in a few other places before but I feel like Cohost is the kind of place that would appreciate hearing about the Super Famicom jigsaw puzzle game Ugoku E Ver. 2.0: Aryol.
The gameplay is just jigsaw puzzles, but the game's story is really great: it stars the green wizard-lookin' chap and his girlfriend as pictured above; she loves aeroplanes but is barred from being a pilot due to gender discrimination, so he helps her rob a bank so she can start her own airline. They steal some treasure, get into scrapes, encounter a dragon and get caught up in a bomb plot organised by anti-government radicals. It's got almost a Studio Ghibli vibe to it, it's surprisingly, well, romantic, and I think it might be my favourite story in any 16-bit game.
The game even comes with an English translation built in: you can read it all here if you like.
