In an ideal world instead of ISP hosting disappearing we'd have government-subsidized webspace. Every person deserves at least 100MB of no-strings-attached web storage. That's my personal credo.

You can do a lot with 100mb, especially if it's free.
No website should be larger than 100mb anyways 😤😤
a single full-resolution photograph is several megabytes in size. it doesn't need to be part of the webpage but as something you could conceivably link to (or have a gallery, etc) limiting it to 100M seems small
even my art commissions folder by itself is over that limit
To be clear “100MB” is a joke number I pulled out of the air specifically because I was riffing on what ISP hosting used to be like
it's not a joke number. it was the number your ISP was most likely to offer you in 1999. :p
oh i know, but you know how jokes on the internet have a way of transforming into serious discussions
but also it's a good idea
Well this 100mb is different from "cloud storage" it's your own little personal web server. Assuming you wanted to make a portfolio website of your work to show off, it would probably be a bad idea to upload everything as full res anyways since people would be inclined to just Take It. Compressing to something like 1280px would not only save a ton of space but make it clear it's a portfolio of examples for people to decide if they want to commission you for a full res piece or support you on Patreon or something
Or you could pay for more than your guaranteed free 100mb :p
I agree that it should be 100mb and also that people should optimize their fucking files.
