I was installing an indie VN on Steam and saw it was an 11GB download, and wondered "how the hell did they manage to use up 11GB of storage". Looks like half of it is voice acting as uncompressed WAVs, the other half is images as PNGs. I've never made a game in Ren'py, I assume it's easy enough to have voice acting in compressed formats instead of WAV? Seems like it'd be a big win for getting game size down.

I'm also probably the only freak out there who always runs my images through oxipng, but it's always funny when I see giant piles of PNGs I could easily cut down by 20-30% without hurting quality.

when i was working with renpy actively, i had all audio in as opus which felt like a great, modern codec that offered some decent advantages at lower bitrates than mp3 while scaling nicely at larger bitrates. uncompressed wav for voice acting is especially unhinged in either a "dev doesn't know better" way or "audio engineer tired of compression and making a statement in the silliest way possible" way
