it’s 2024! how exciting. we hope everyone enjoyed their break from cohost getting any updates while we were on vacation.

some big corporate news: kara celebrated its 1st anniversary at the company the other day, which means (after a pretty tight vote, only passed by 3) it’s now a part-owner of anti software software club! congrats on equal share in eggbug!

here’s what’s new:

  • self-service page deletion is now live!
    • you can start the process in your page settings.
    • after you request a deletion, there’s a three day waiting period so you can cancel it if you change your mind or did it accidentally.
    • once those three days are up, we’ll process the deletion in our daily automated maintenance window. all the posts and comments on that page will be permanently deleted.
    • right now, only pages with a single editor can be deleted automatically, because managing multi-editor pages isn’t something we’ve built publicly-facing UI for yet.
    • if you need to delete a multi-editor page, you need a page deleted faster, or if the automated deletion process fails for some reason (it shouldn’t, but we’re not confident enough to say that it can’t), please feel free to e-mail us at support@cohost.org as before, and we’ll handle it for you.
    • we know this isn’t a particularly flashy feature, but it saves kara a lot of time.

in reply to @staff's post:

hey thanks for fixing the safari performance issues! yesterday i was writing a post and the alt text description editor popped up behind the posting box when i was trying to put alt text on my images. i can't reproduce it intentionally now, but could that have been related to those changes? i'll keep an eye out to see if it happens again

we’re now using the native HTML elements instead of a library

self-service page deletion is now live!

are pages available to be created once they're deleted? are @page tags changed at all? how are asks affected?

Thanks so much for all the hard work!
