was it? i don't remember 3d transparency being a thing, though admittedly my memory of the 90s is pretty hazy
It was a big part of the PS1-vs-Saturn console war, at least as far as the magazines were concerned. The PS1 could do it pretty easily, while a lot of Saturn games had to use dither transparency.
that's really interesting! i guess i had mostly stopped reading gaming magazines at that point, i completely missed that
Transparent objects/liquids everywhere, overuse of particle emitters, and garish colored lighting in levels is still an aesthetic I have a nostalgic fondness for.
