i'm going to let you do a little peek into my soul.
one of the greatest tracks in the whole mega man franchise was the first wily stage theme in Mega Man 2
around 2007 there was a japanese meme that spread on nico nico douga. it was a song set to this track. it's called Omoide wa Okkusenman! (Countless Memories! or more literally 110 Million Memories!) that got various versions versions. it's not a funny meme, it's a song about growing up and losing childhood wonder. here's the song with the animation that was made for it with an english translation at the bottom but you should also hear the jam project version
in 2012, Sound Holic made an official album of remixes for mega man's 25th anniversary called Rockman Holic. this includes a remix of this track with english lyrics called Together As One. the lyrics are clearly related to Omoide wa Okkusenman! but i'm always interpreted it as a response to that song. here's a version of the whole song with lyrics
to me Omoide wa Okkusenman! is about wanting to return to the days of chilhood reverie while Together As One is sung like it's another person to the former song's singer about how these feelings were never real, it was all just a dream but while we can see through the dream now, the dream is always still there. all you have to do is find the courage to believe in it.
this permanently affected my worldview and it's something i think about a lot. when i'm sad, i start singing to myself "it's when my broken heart starts remembering again. a dream that keeps replaying inside of my head. shrouded in mysteries, it's almost like deja vu. REALITY IS NEVER JUST THE WAY THAT WE WANT IT TO BE. WITHOUT IT, DREAMS WOULD NEVER SHINE. DEEP DOWN YOU'LL FIND THE LIGHT INSIDE OF YOU"
