i’m like i want more friends to play dq10 with me but i can’t like recommend going through the hassle of download translation tools and possibly a vpn and if you wanna play more than the free trial allows buying the game from a japanese storefront and subscribing without a japanese card to anyone but a dedicated dq fan to myself.
but i can recommend dq11 to anyone who’s never played a dq game before as the best one just in general and for newcomers.
but like dq is the series that defined the jrpg and sticks to its roots for better of for worse. for better for me cause i’m the person who goes around talking to every npc and reading all the dialogue and i love turn-based combat with navigating menus to carefully selecting my moves and then watch the turn play out, gambling on what i think the enemy is going to do and accounting for that.
but people always tell me they don’t like turn-based combat and well, i can’t recommend dq for them. BUT dq10 being an mmo makes it a bit different. the combat isn’t quite turn-based. you still select your moves navigating the command menu but the battle is happening in real time, there’s just a cooldown between when the command menu appears for you to perform your action, and you’re only managing yourself not your whole party. plus you can move around the battlefield in real time even when you don’t have your command and there are like aoe attacks to move away from and there’s a weight mechanic where heavier tanker characters can push lighter enemies away from their flimsy healers.
