star wars KOTOR has the funniest opening ever. you wake up during an attack and a soldier bursts in yelling "the sith has found us! quickly! grab your gear and come with me! we need to secure the jedi leader's position and ensure her safety!"

  1. How do I retrieve my gear?

"okay so you wanna use the right-mouse button to pan the camera around, then hold both mouse buttons to move forward. left-click on the box to open the ACTION menu and take each item."

  1. Okay.

max payne 3 carries on the series' gameplay excellently and nails max's character arc. that said, i'll never forgive rockstar for dropping the affectionate pastiche and importing their hyperbolic satire from GTA. there's a bitter edge in MP3's unlikeable cast of stereotypical rich yuppies, ones that max is nonsensically meant to derive pathos from during the story. this brand of hollow "sociopolitical" critique doesn't fit whatsoever, it's such a hideous clash.

that's the real poison that kills an otherwise fantastic sequel. it gets why max payne worked but not what made max payne unique.

HEALTH - Tears

the Max Payne 3 OST is such a funny one because the hype goes so hard for Tears and then it's like "oh yeah there's, other tracks."

it is a fucking banger though. there's a reason everybody remembers the airport shootout, whole level is some magnificent audiovisual storytelling. i always heard that abrasive repetition as max's lifelong headache being violently concluded; that siren-like voice pulling him through the last fight and lyrically laying it all to rest.

surprisingly affecting moment for a game where you slow-mo shoot 50 baddies every five seconds while you've likely forgotten half the story.

HEALTH was an inspired choice, i just wish the rest of the OST reflected this singles-off-the-album approach. the bulk of the tracklist consists of middling ambient attempts tinged with a bit of their trademark noise. there's a couple of more memorable songs (The Girl and Dead aren't bad) but it all still ends up too indistinct as either an album experience or soundtrack.

do love HEALTH's albums though, Rat Wars kicked.
