christ that's Battlefield 1's campaign over too, these things are short.

a good thing in the previous games' cases but i actually enjoyed 1 quite a bit in comparison. it uses an anthology structure with its setting and tells individual stories, which works wonders for pacing and keeps each set of levels fresh. easily the best of the series (singleplayer) so far, though i've only got V left sdlkfj.

only slight criticism is the writing, the tone of it mostly. BF1's opening mission is nothing like the succeeding ones at all, you get the impression we're going full War Is Hell with the dozens of player-perspective deaths and sombre tone. right after that? full on Spielberg's Band Of Brothers ripped fresh from romanticism. i get the idea, we've been applying this approach to WW2 in games for decades, but considering the extremely complicated ambiguity of its prequel and how unique BF1 is inherently for tackling it, i was hoping it'd keep away from Saving Private Ryan.

still, banger of a "modern" military shooter otherwise and plays unbelievably well, probably the smoothest ive seen. i'd put this right up there with the... like, two CODS i enjoy.

there's a reason nazis are the videogame go-to for an easy villain sdf;kl. BF1 tries to occasionally explain why you're fighting Ottomans and what their deal is but there's only so much it can do before you end up watching a documentary. the setting's incredibly difficult for a AAA big-budget shooter to even begin to explain. WW2? shoot the nazis, you know what a nazi is. Medal Of Honour made it big off that for years.
