if you don't know, WRATH (a 3D Realms published title) was an earlier post-Dusk boomer shooter throwback that went on life support for three years, intended for a 2021 release. updates were slow, miniscule and honestly i'd written it off for a slow death quite awhile ago; a shame since it hewed much closer to id software's combat ethos than most.

and it's out! it's finally out! not only that, im reading super positive reviews of the finished game! excited to dive in after having it gather dust in my library.

will report back soon with HeatherDog BoomShoot Talk.

ive been replaying doom 3 with the BFG edition but this time using CSTDoom3 instead of the BFA sourceport. this is in order to get the best of both worlds between classic and remaster. visuals and gameplay from the old, higher refresh rate from the new.

one thing CST reimplements is Carmack's Reverse, a specific version of shadow volume originating from doom 3. even now, it paints environments in such a unique way, almost like a cloak. nothing quite looks like this.

BFG would remove this entirely and for the worse, in my opinion. doom 3 might be a pussycat in terms of horror but you can't deny the atmosphere.
