im playing the original Uncharted since im getting my exclusive money's worth out of my PS3. it's interesting, TLOU is so far the only post-Jak Naughty Dog game im familiar with and it didn't feel like ND at all. not tonally, visually, gameplay, nothing.

i expected something similar with Uncharted and, though it's definitely no Jak, im surprised at how much closer it is to what i know of them. the writing isn't anything special (have you heard of indiana jones?) yet you can see the sillier side of the studio still well and alive here. lots of quirky animation and dialogue.

playing it is another matter of course, we're firmly in seventh-gen TPS territory and Uncharted was a founding father of this era. even as someone who didn't love the Jak sequels, im pining for more interesting combat.

ive been rewatching the 2006 sony E3 conference (it's a yearly tradition) and i'll never get over just how boring they managed to make their exclusives look. sony's stage mishaps don't seem that awful until you really sit through the whole thing and realize you just watched a dude quietly play a game in the corner for 5 minutes. technical wizardry means nothing in marketing if it's used to make a rhino amble along the screen.

you know something's gone horribly wrong when Sonic '06's 20-second mini trailer is more of a wake-up call than Resistance: Ted Price Stands There Playing Videogames.

i love this bit so much, ted ignores a hundred-strong audience to just play his little game
