i love black flag's story its like

start: "BEING A PIRATE RULES"

end: "man, the lack of structure, available resources and chronic backstabbing historically portrays piracy in a much darker, realistic light"

post-story: "BEING A PIRATE RULES, PLUNDER THAT BRIG ME HEARTIES"

it's hilarious how much more digestible and fun a Ubisoft Map™ can be when it's not the size of the globe. Black Flag isn't even a tenth of Odyssey's billion miles, which masks the activities' shallow nature. the game never drowns you in them, there's just enough to keep you playing.

it's a shame really. had assassin's creed taken after say, yakuza in its later years, we'd have a much more interesting series in 2023. other sandbox-distraction titles have figured out this trick (small map, oceans of depth) and yet AC only got bigger and bigger and bigger, intolerably so by now.
