People outside of the country can sit here, far removed from the conflict, and say the IRA should have done this or should not have done that. We can say they should have just stuck with peaceful protest, but this is to engage with an imagined reality, with scenarios that are, to us, entirely hypothetical and so are tremendously easy to navigate. I think more prudent is to recognize truth.

When people are pushed, they will push back—and they have every right to push back. Meanwhile, we who stand on the sidelines have no right to dictate how they do so.
